How It All Started - The Email
Stand with me in prayer for my dad.
I am asking those that will, can, and are called with a pure heart and a right
spirit, in the Name of Jesus to stand with me in prayer. The word of God tells
us that the prayers of the righteous avail much.
Most of you have been with us when my dad had a stroke 2.5 years
ago. Well we are on that journey again. We notice a change in my dad a few
weeks ago, and we told his visiting doctor and she just wrote it off and cleared
him from the stroke, as if nothing was wrong. But we knew something was wrong,
and even the other health care providers that came out to the house knew that
my dad was not the same.
Seeing the change in my dad and him not being able to eat his
food, drink his coffee which he loves to drink, not being able to drink it. When we would give him his
meds it took him a while to swallow. I went into prayer and ask God to guide
me. I knew my dad needed a second opinion, so I called another hospital and was able to get a doctor's appointment the
same day. This doctor took care of seniors.
To Move Forward.
When me and my mom took my dad to this new doctor, come to find out, my dad did have a stroke.
That was why we saw the change. So from that day forward me and my mom was
taking my dad back and forth for his doctor appointments. By Friday when my dad's
home health care nurse came to visit him, she told us that my dad needed to go
to the hospital because he was dehydrated. I hated to hear that because I don't
like hospitals. It's ok for outpatients, but not to stay any length of time.
That's just how I feel.
Me and my mom took my dad to ER and sure enough he was
dehydrated, but not only that, he also had a UTI, Urinary Tract Infection. That
infection was not detected by his previous doctor and to tell you the truth, not even by the new doctor. As soon as the ER gave my dad fluids
he perked right up. But the ER doctor told us that my dad would be staying in
the hospital.
That is not something that I wanted to hear. But because my dad
was not able to do his swallow test in outpatient, because he was
dehydrated and had a Urinary Tract Infection. All of this in an elderly person
causes other problems if not addressed, and even death.
Thank God for the Holy Ghost! Now while in the hospital Fri, and
Sat, I was told that my dad would have a swallow test. But that didn't happen,
you know why, because I was told by one of the doctors that there was no doctor
working on the weekend to give the test. Then this doctor went on to say,
"Doctors need a day off"!
You know what, even though she was thinking that, she should
have kept that to herself. Here, my dad is in the hospital and a doctor tells me
there is no one working to take care for my dad, because it’s the weekend, and
doctors need a day off!
What was told to me was, don't get sick on the weekend! Are they serious....and
since that time, it has been so many things said by these so called health care
providers. Not living up to the hospital
mission statement that states, “Everyone receives excellent care”… Help them
Jesus! Right now!
So, my dad was supposed to come home, and I get a call
from the doctor telling me that things have changed. But you know what, my dad
is a fighter and if he is a fighter, so are we....I am asking you to come in
agreement with me, binding your faith with my faith in the name of Jesus!
Why Awarding-Winning Author, Angela Boone Made A Conscience Decision To Pen, "My Father's Keeper: Speak Up, They're Not Always Right!
After
months of unethical hospital and nursing home drama, her dad was left in a
feces and urine undergarment for 3 days, and was discharged from the hospital
with a life threating disease that was untreated, and known to medical staff.
“This book will share with you how age discrimination is playing a major role
in how most people receive medical treatment, and how baby boomers are now
becoming a part of this group of individuals.
Author Angela Boone asked the
question, “Could
it be that history is repeating itself. In 1999 the Kaiser Family Foundation along with Princeton
survey research associates, surveyed a nationally representative sample of
Caucasian, African Americans, and Latinos, and found that the majority of
Americans are uninformed about health care disparities, Medical
Care Research and Review, Vol. 57 Supplement, (2000) 218-235, copyright 2000
Sage Publication, Inc.
In the medical profession, from
research, and racism of the Tuskegee Experiment, and now to, age discrimination?
For forty years, doctors and public officials stood by and watched as 399 black
men from Macon County, Alabama die, and how physicians who could have prevented death in the lives of
these men deliberately withheld treatment that could cure them.
“My Father’s Keeper: Speak Up,
They’re Not Always Right” pens a heartfelt story of how most patients are being
treated unethical in the 21st century. You or a loved one could be a part of an
“unknown experiment” when admitted into a hospital for something minor and
something major happens. This book also tells you what to look out for when
seeking treatment and a medical professional. “My Father’s Keeper: Speak Up,
They’re Not Always Right” will share with you how becoming an advocate and
speaking up can save a life, and this life could be your own.
